Mysterious Beginning

Thirteen chapters along with an afterword packed neatly into two volumes give Sugaru Miaki just the right length to draw readers into a gloomy atmosphere overflowing with emotion. Everything kicks off when Yosuke Fukamachi receives a late-night call from a public telephone booth.

The mysterious woman on the other end of the line throws out a bizarre 50-day bet. She promises to wipe away the large birthmark on his face if he can make Yui Hajikano, the girl he secretly loves but never dared to dream of, fall in love with him.

Entangled Fates

For a young man naturally insecure and hot-tempered because of his appearance, this is nothing short of a life-changing opportunity. Accepting the challenge, Yosuke Fukamachi is stunned to see the birthmark actually vanish, getting ready for a normal high school life.

Little does he know that life has other plans, and he is thunderstruck to discover that Yui Hajikano bears that exact same birthmark and is harboring suicidal intentions. A bizarre summer begins when elements of the supernatural and a folk legend about a mermaid jump into the mix.

Interwoven Characters

The journey to untangle the mess helps Yosuke Fukamachi step by step learn how to open up. His close friend Yuuya Hinohara alongside female classmate Chigusa Ogiue show up right on time, bringing extremely genuine emotional low notes.

The author maintains his familiar subdued and nostalgic vibe, deeply portraying the shards of youth. The intertwining of love and insecurity creates an emotional depth that is both heartbreaking and captivating.
