A Midnight Trap
Have you ever imagined your life being split into two completely opposite halves? In The Midnight Owl by Nhan Liangyu, this crazy scenario becomes reality for the characters. The novel delivers an incredibly unique unlimited flow setting that instantly drags readers into its fantastical world.
Right when the clock strikes midnight, two owl hoots echo, and Xu Wang is suddenly dragged into a mysterious dimension called Owl. From then on, his life is split in two: his daytime reality of going to work, and the brutal nighttime level clearing. This bizarre system forces players to constantly adapt just to stay alive.
Brutal Rules of survival
The world of Owl in this story is a mysterious dimension where players must face countless dangers just for survival. To escape and return to their normal lives, they are forced to conquer a total of 23 levels of grueling challenges. This harsh rule spares no one, constantly pushing everyone to their absolute limits.
The stages take place in a wide variety of locations, from snow-covered forests to ancient castles, requiring players to use their reasoning ability for puzzle solving. After successfully clearing levels 13, they receive an incredibly tempting prize: a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get a conditional wish from the game itself.
The Perfect Duo
The main characters are the absolute soul of this thrilling survival masterpiece. Xu Wang is incredibly optimistic, a bit sarcastic, and plays the role of an adorable shou. He brings a burst of positive energy that lightens the tense atmosphere of every game round.
Fighting right alongside him is Wu Sheng, his high school crush who rejected his confession years ago. Wu Sheng possesses an exceptional IQ and a super calm, aloof demeanor, though he occasionally plays dumb. This contrast makes him incredibly charming.
Romance and Teamwork
Little does anyone know, Wu Sheng has actually had a crush on our optimistic protagonist for a very long time. Their unexpected reunion as teammates in this virtual world reignites their long-suppressed feelings. Together, they face life-and-death situations, gradually coming to understand each other's hearts.
Aside from the main couple, their teammates—like the distinct and charismatic Chi Yingxue—are also brilliantly portrayed. The absolute trust and bond shared by the team through every stage paint a beautiful portrait of friendship. They aren't just co-players clearing levels; they've become lifelong soulmates.
Witty Storytelling Style
Author Nhan Lương Vũ does a phenomenal job of balancing thrills and comedy. The witty, charming writing style keeps the story from feeling as heavy and bleak as traditional survival novels. You won't feel suffocated at all while following the characters' journey.
Every casual banter between the team members brings genuine, hearty laughs. The way the author sets up these bittersweet, hilarious situations makes their nighttime level clearing adventure extremely entertaining. It's almost impossible to look away from this gripping plot.
