A Millennial Reunion

If you think the job of a judge of the underworld is just taking attendance like a school roll call, this novel will completely turn that idea upside down. The main character Wen Shi is a judge who has lived for over a thousand years, only to find himself suffering from missing memories and a fractured soul.

Our guy spends twelve rounds of reincarnation diligently dragging a script around while trying to find his true self. Right on his twelfth life, he bumps into Chen Budao, his illustrious grandmaster and former master.

Ironically, that apex former half-immortal is currently masquerading as a sickly lodger named Xie Wen, coughing away as if he is about to pass out any second.

The Design of Cage and supernatural

The world in the story revolves around the task of resolving spiritual Cages. These spaces are formed due to the unfulfilled obsessions of trapped souls who cannot find peace.

The master-disciple duo must follow every single clue for case solving, untangling the hidden grievances to set those pitiful souls free. The disciple uses puppetry art to fight in ultra-cool fashion, while the master remains utterly breezy playing the role of a sick patient.

Each case is a small puzzle piece, gradually revealing secrets that have shrouded a thousand years. The pacing carries a touch of gloomy supernatural color while weaving in laugh-out-loud situations.

Captivating Highlights

• The brilliantly creative idea of decoding spiritual Cages, seamlessly paired with intensely dramatic case solving elements.
• The dynamic between a cold, arrogant Wen Shi and a Xie Wen who loves playing weak creates an irresistible charm.
• A supporting cast featuring Xia Qiao, Zhou Xu, and Lao Mao delivers top-tier stress-relieving comedy.
• The master-disciple romance brims with deep emotional resonance, slowly untying knots forged over millennia of destiny.

Points to Consider

• The pacing at the beginning is a bit leisurely, requiring a little patience before hitting the climax.
• The sheer volume of background details and character arcs like Bu Ning or Zhong Si is quite dense, requiring readers to follow the plot closely.

Final Verdict for Readers

Clocking in at 117 chapters and 6 extras, the novel offers a perfectly sized reading experience without dragging on. The appearance of characters like Zhang Lan, Zhang Yalin, Da Zhao, Xiao Zhao, and Zhuang Ye adds even more vibrancy to the supernatural tapestry.

In short: An exceptional choice for anyone looking for a spiritual detective story that is dramatic, emotionally rich, and brimming with charming entertainment.
