A Chance Encounter in a Haunted Castle

The story unfolds at Sleeping Beauty Castle, a mysterious place shrouded in a supernatural aura. Rumored to be haunted, it serves as the perfect setting for a horror-themed variety show.

Amidst the dim shadows and eerie rumors, Bai Yuhuai—a renowned movie actor crowned as the Film King—steps into this world. Little does he know this journey will lead him to a fragile, trapped soul.

The castle is more than just a background; it is a physical shackle binding the character to his past. It creates a stark, contrasting atmosphere between the cold, lifeless stones and the blossoming warmth of human connection.

A Little Ghost and His Clumsy Attempts at scaring

The protagonist, Jing Jiujiu, is introduced as an incredibly beautiful and adorable teenage ghost. After seven years of profound loneliness inside the castle, he is suddenly bound to a strange system that tasks him with scaring people.

Jing Jiujiu's ultimate goal is to gather enough energy to break free from his confinement. However, instead of spreading terror, his absolute innocent triggers a series of hilariously chaotic situations.

Every single attempt to look frightening fails miserably before the show's contestants. Most notably, he accidentally catches the eye of Bai Yuhuai in the most unexpected way.

The Protective Care of a cold-hearted Film King

Bai Yuhuai is portrayed as a cold-hearted, strong, and highly perceptive man. He is the very first person to truly "see" and interact with Jing Jiujiu with genuine sincerity.

Instead of fearing this supernatural entity, he feels a deep urge to protect and care for him. He becomes the sole bridge allowing the tiny ghost to reach out and touch the world outside his castle walls.

The delicate connection between human and spirit blooms with a tender warmth that heals from within. The way he quietly watches over the boy and allows him to linger close reveals a deeply loving heart hidden beneath a frozen gaze.

Pain and Solitude Beneath the Glamour

Beneath the lighthearted comedy, the novel carves out quiet spaces to explore Jing Jiujiu's family background. The grand castle is actually a gift from his late father—a painful heirloom that keeps him bound to the physical world.

The revelation that his surviving father has remarried and started a new life is heart-wrenching. It perfectly explains the young soul's profound sense of abandonment and his desperate yearning to reconnect with the living world.

It is this very lack of familial love that makes his encounter with Bai Yuhuai all the more meaningful. It is not just romance; it is a long-overdue compensation for years of absolute loneliness.

Strengths of the Novel

Points to Consider

• The system element occasionally feels a bit thin, acting mainly as a plot device to spark their initial meetings.

Reader Perspectives

Judging by feedback from online novel communities, this is a highly entertaining and breezy read. Fans of lighthearted stories will find it thoroughly adorable and perfect for a stress-free escape.

Readers easily fall in love with Jing Jiujiu's personality, treating the novel as a wonderful comforting pill. However, if you are looking for tight logic or hardcore horror, this story might fall a bit short of your expectations.
