A Bold Masquerade

Assigned as a secret bodyguard for a foreign prince to dodge assassins, Nidel—an underdog mage who gets zero respect at the Technology Magic Association—pulls a move straight out of a 'How to Stalk Your Crush' manual. Instead of showing his face, he taps into transformation magic to become a black cat, figuring it's the stealthiest way to stay close to his target.

The delicious irony? The man leading the official royal guard is none other than Legato, the Commander of the Royal Knight Order and the guy Nidel has been pining over for ages. Suddenly finding himself living with his crush as a house pet leads to all sorts of chaotic, face-palm moments.

A Cat's Eye View

From his feline vantage point, Nidel gets a VIP pass into the private life of our resident stoic knight. Watching a famously cold-hearted knight interact with a mischievous cat provides some genuinely charming humor. The author puts the protagonist in a passive role, yet he's the one holding all the secrets, making for a fun perspective.

Every head pat or worried glance from Legato is etched into Nidel's heart. This bizarre setup isn't just about hiding an identity; it’s a journey where two souls drift closer while grappling with the weight of duty and responsibility. That contrast between the knight's rigidity and the cat's cleverness is pure catnip for readers.

Nostalgic Magic World

The setting unfolds into a fantasy world with a classical European atmosphere, where magic and swordsmanship go hand-in-hand. The author doesn't get bogged down in building complex power systems or macro-political wars. Instead, the focus stays on the grounded, daily details that make the world feel lived-in.

The friction between the pragmatic Technology Magic Association and the honorable Royal Knight Order adds depth to the social backdrop. Despite the plot involving assassins and princes, the overall vibe remains peaceful and warm, giving the mage's love story a touch of classical romance.

Notable Highlights

• The romance feels incredibly natural, cleverly woven through the daily pet-and-owner dynamics.
• Nidel isn't some damsel; he's smart and independent, even if he's labeled a low-level mage.
• At just 27 chapters, the pacing is snappy and doesn't drag its feet or get bogged down in filler.
• The overall vibe is cozy and light—the perfect stress-reliever after a long day.

Points to Consider

• The whole 'assassins and political schemes' subplot involving the prince feels a bit underbaked and lacks real tension.
• We don't get enough world-building regarding the Technology Magic Association to make it feel truly unique.
• Side characters, including the prince, are basically cardboard cutouts serving as backdrops for the main couple's development.

A Choice for the Soul

This story is a breath of fresh air for anyone tired of endless chapters filled with backstabbing. Without any breathless mind games, it brings us back to the most sincere vibes. The journey of this black cat offers a gentle kind of healing.

However, if you’re looking for high-octane magic battles or complex political intrigue, this might not be your best bet. The simplicity in how conflicts are resolved is a minor flaw, but it's totally forgivable given how much sweetness the story delivers.

TL;DR: A hopelessly adorable romance set against a cozy Western fantasy backdrop. Nidel's journey as a mage-turned-cat to stay by Legato's side is a must-read for anyone looking for something soft and sweet.
