Master of Mirror

Cliche God-Slaying Setting

The world in the novel is a tired rehash of familiar invasion tropes when Earth is threatened by God Realm. Instead of relying purely on science, humanity has to cling to Leaf Vein, a superpower born from World Tree.

Author Tam Cửu Âm Vực tries to cover up the lack of creativity by heightening the tension of the survival struggle.

However, the political factionalism between Gou Chen Academy and Adam Academy provides a mildly interesting focal point, showing that humans will squabble even on the brink of extinction.

Protagonist and Cheesy Cheat Buffs

Ji Qianming enters as a generic orphan, the most overworked origin story in the genre. But don't let that humble guise fool you—he immediately acquires the so-called Master of Mirror.

This mirror allows him to Copy any power, starting from Flying Flower up to ultimate cheat abilities. He is essentially a silver-spoon character wearing pauper's clothes, rendering his struggle thoroughly unconvincing.

As the novel progresses, grand titles like Underworld Emperor and Underworld Heavenly Emperor alienate the protagonist further. His transition from a high school student to a god-slaying entity happens far too quickly without necessary breather moments.

Bloated Power Scaling System

The author builds a power scale from Grade C Leaf Vein up to Grade S Leaf Vein. However, spawning Emperor Vein and End Leaf Vein shows a loss of control over the power scale.

Concepts like Eternal, Time, and Space are tossed in purely to make attacks sound grandiose. Holding the Eternal Law makes the protagonist completely invincible, utterly draining the late-game battles of any genuine tension.

Still, combining modern firearms like Abyss Sniper Rifle with supernatural powers isn't a bad idea. It brings a touch of tactical flavor beyond generic magic slinging.

Strengths in Pace and Scale

  • The pacing is extremely relentless, leaving little filler to put you to sleep.
  • Battles against God Realm are portrayed on a grand scale with solid epic flare.
  • Shadowy organizations like Shang Xie Society add decent layers of conspiracy.
  • The relationship between Ji Qianming and his wife Zhao Qixue remains surprisingly stable.

Weaknesses in Depth and Logic

  • The zero-to-hero orphan trope is thoroughly outdated and tedious for veteran readers.
  • Revealing the protagonist as the secret Emperor's Son of Dao Xuan God Emperor destroys any meaningful sense of personal effort.
  • Side characters like Zhang Fan and Wu Shengyuan fade into background props as power levels inflate too fast.
  • Terminology surrounding Leaf Vein grows unnecessarily convoluted with redundant jargon.

Reader Perspective

If you love overpowered protagonists who steamroll enemies and slaughter gods, you will find this highly satisfying. Fast pacing and continuous fights are the primary selling points.

Conversely, if you want tight logic or deep character development, skip this. The secret lineage combined with the cheap Copy skill makes every conflict resolve far too easily.

Regardless, it serves well enough as mindless popcorn entertainment if you don't demand original plotlines. It delivers a flashy, visually stimulating power trip from zero to absolute ruler.

Final Verdict

The novel carries little thematic value, but it hits the mark for pure action entertainment. Blending urban tropes with mythology creates a broad enough battlefield for the author to paint loud, chaotic skirmishes.

The family bond between Ji Huang, Xia Murou, and the protagonist is also an emotional thread that somewhat saves the dryness of the rank numbers. A fully completed work, although not too outstanding, is enough to read to the last page.

Best for: A classic turn-your-brain-off read featuring an overpowered protagonist and a bloated power system—ideal for killing time rather than critical analysis.
