A Beginning Born of Despair

Opening with a young woman quietly resigning herself to the final stages of brain cancer, the story immediately establishes a deeply surreal atmosphere. An accidental download of what seemed to be a local mental hospital app thrusts Yu Xiao into an unimaginable journey of survival.

The narrative space artfully blends the somber gloom of a hospital with the visceral brutality of supernatural 'treatment sessions.' Spanning a completed 192 chapters, the story maintains a relentless pace from the very first encounter.

Resilience on the Edge of Eternity

Our protagonist, Yu Xiao, has long endured a cold and indifferent family life; her divorced parents moved on to start their own families years ago. Upon receiving her terminal diagnosis, she initially adopted a detached, Zen-like attitude, simply waiting for her time to come.

However, once she is pulled into this horrific game, her dormant decisiveness and sharp intellect truly ignite. Having accidentally stumbled upon the path of a talisman master, she employs brilliant, unorthodox maneuvers and mystical talismans to defy her grim fate.

She is joined by two steadfast ward-mates, Zhao Lan and Zhou Xiao Zhen. The bond shared by these three women serves as a steadfast emotional anchor amidst the countless lurking dangers of their environment.

A Dance Between Chills and Laughter

The most striking quality of the work lies in the seamless intersection of chilling horror and moments of absurd humor. Sinister supernatural forces appear one after another, constantly challenging the characters' courage.

Yet, Yu Xiao’s unconventional problem-solving and peculiar optimism manage to dispel the darkness. Tense standoffs are frequently transformed into unexpected resolutions, offering the reader moments of genuine, refreshing mirth.
