An Out-of-This-World Plot Twist

Ever imagined a certified danmei "top" transmigrating into a straight-guy harem novel? That's the wild, chaotic start for Li Zouxing in Faking Straight. Suddenly, he finds himself forced into the role of the male lead's ultimate ride-or-die bestie in a novel called The Journey.

To keep his head on his shoulders and satisfy the system's character constraints, Li Zouxing has to play the innocent, naive Sunny. But when faced with the absolute snacc that is Gu Wencheng, his hunter instincts kick right in. And so, the ultimate game of pretending to be straight while aggressively flirting kicks off across the vast, perilous galaxy.

A Clash of Predators

Li Zouxing (also known as Astra) is definitely not your run-of-the-mill, damsel-in-distress shou. In reality, he's incredibly cunning, loves to tease, and constantly lays traps to lure Gu Wencheng into his web of love. The sheer contrast between his innocent-looking exterior and his plotting, seductive inner self creates an irresistible charm for readers.

On the flip side, Gu Wencheng, or Consultant Cheng, starts off as the ultimate straight guy of the original plot. But under his bestie's subtle, undercover romantic onslaught, he gradually develops a fierce possessiveness. Their emotional tug-of-war disguised as "bromance" will keep you laughing and on the edge of your seat all at once.

The Art of Subtle Flirting

Author Thường Niệm Quân does a fantastic job building up the sizzling tension between the two. Every seemingly accidental touch or look from Li Zouxing is actually a calculated move. He slickly uses the "straight bro" card to get close, initiate physical touch, and plant seeds of longing in the other's mind.

Their romance doesn't feel rushed at all; the psychological shift is incredibly natural and convincing. Gu Wencheng's possessiveness ramps up as he gets constantly jealous of the admirers surrounding his friend. The way they navigate this blurry, more-than-friends line under the guise of brotherhood keeps the constant tension dialed up to eleven.

An Interstellar World of Virtual Tech

Aside from the romance, the sci-fi setting is incredibly detailed and immersive. We follow the characters to Solaris Academy for training and education. The battles here aren't just about physical brawn; they heavily depend on mental power.

The high-stakes exams in the Sky Garden virtual world deliver a highly realistic and thrilling experience. Fighting over energy crystal units requires top-tier strategic thinking from our characters. Even side characters like the star thief Roax get plenty of moments to shine.

The Highlights

• Super unique character setup for Li Zouxing—a smart, proactive gay top who takes full control of his love life.
• Explosive chemistry between the leads, featuring subtle yet highly provocative flirting.
• The interstellar space and science fiction elements are smoothly woven into the plot, never feeling dry or boring.
• A solid cast of supporting characters like Roax and Ling Nian who back up the plot and provide great comedic relief.

A Few Minor Hiccups

• The mid-section pacing at Solaris Academy can feel dragged out due to repetitive exams.
• The heavy focus on romance means some exploration of the interstellar space isn't as deep as it could be.
• Supporting characters like Simon and Jiyu didn't get enough spotlight to really tap into their full potential.
