Crashing the entertainment industry

Showbiz stories mixed with the supernatural are always a hit, but having a grim reaper barge straight into an idol survival show is just a stroke of comedic genius. Spanning 198 chapters, this story is an absolute blast that will keep you thoroughly entertained.

Lu Xu is an elite operative from the Reaper Bureau who goes undercover to investigate some fishy business surrounding Ji Xiunian. This movie king has somehow cheated death one too many times, raising some serious eyebrows in the underworld.

To get a closer look at his target, Lu Xu signs up for the music competition where Ji Xiunian serves as a mentor. Nobody expected this contestant to accidentally snag the center position, leaving everyone completely stunned.

The Reaper and the movie king

Lu Xu is the kind of lead you can't help but love: strong from the start, calm, and incredibly sharp. He’s always calling the shots, skillfully hiding his true identity while effortlessly dealing with any evil spirit that dares to cause trouble.

On the flip side, despite his glittering fame, Ji Xiunian carries a tragic curse: he’s destined to be lonely and short-lived. Ever since he was born, he’s been a magnet for death energy, constantly attracting all sorts of nasty spirits and ghouls.

Everything flips when Ji Xiunian crosses paths with Lu Xu on the reality show. Having a handsome grim reaper around acts like a lucky charm, and the fortune shifts for our movie king as the ghost sightings drop significantly.

Modern Underworld Management

Instead of messy cultivation ranks, the world-building focuses on the workflow of the grim reapers. The whole process of reaping a soul and guiding them to the afterlife is handled with professional, corporate-level precision.

My favorite part? The author modernized the underworld with a work app called Grim Reaper Home Delivery. Watching grim reapers accept orders to exorcise an evil spirit via an app is both hilarious and totally fresh.

The backstories are also neatly tied in through Ji Xiunian's mother, Zhong Huiqing. She was once a department manager at the Reaper Bureau and left behind a jade pendant to help her son suppress that pesky death energy.

Why You’ll Love It

• A brilliant mix of glitzy entertainment industry vibes and funny supernatural elements.
• The chemistry between Lu Xu and Ji Xiunian is fire, with a supportive dynamic that feels natural and earned.
• A great supporting cast, from fellow contestant friends to helpful soul colleagues, keeps the mood light and fun.
• The plot moves fast without dragging, making a spiritual theme feel extremely gentle and easy to digest.

A Few Minor Notes

• The horror is kept to a minimum, so if you're looking for something dark and spine-chilling, this might feel a bit too tame.
• Lu Xu is so overpowered that his battles with evil spirits can sometimes feel like they are resolved a bit too quickly.
• The idol competition serves more as a backdrop for the plot rather than diving deep into musical expertise.

What Others Are Saying

• Novel Updates: 4.4 / 5.0 (190 reviews, as of Sep 29, 2026) – Most readers can't get enough of the high entertainment value and smooth pacing.

The Final Verdict

This is top-tier entertainment for anyone who loves BL with an urban fantasy twist. Following a grim reaper on his journey to become an idol will definitely give you wonderful moments of relaxation that are worth every second.

Bottom line: If you want a story that’s both hilarious and sweet with a stellar cast, you absolutely cannot miss this one!
