A Sweet Showmance in the entertainment industry

If you're looking for pure entertainment that will have you giggling at the female lead's cluelessness and swooning over the male lead's absolute devoted nature, this is your absolute best bet. "The Whole World Thinks He's Secretly In Love With Me" kicks off with a super fun premise: throwing an ordinary girl like Sheng Yi into a variety show right alongside a mega-superstar.

The most humorous part is that while the entire world—from die-hard fans to the other guest stars—is absolutely convinced that Jiang Lianzhou has been harboring a secret crush on his former desk mate for years, our female lead remains blissfully practical. She's dead certain that all his sweet gestures and deep, loving gazes are just high-tier acting to boost the show's ratings, so she enthusiastically 'acts' along as the object of his secretly in love gaze to get the job done.

The hilarious disconnect between 'I'm just acting' and 'I'm genuinely in love' leads to some seriously humorous situations, leaving readers utterly amused by Sheng Yi's sheer obliviousness. The pacing is just right—not too rushed, yet giving us a beautiful front-row seat to their romance, from their distant high school years to their reunion under the dazzling spotlight.

A Sharp-Witted Female Lead and a devoted Male Lead

Sheng Yi is wonderfully written as a painter who hides a warm heart beneath a slightly aloof, detached exterior. The way she handles sudden fame and the swirling rumors about her relationship with Jiang Lianzhou shows real spine; she never lets his massive celebrity status dazzle or intimidate her.

In contrast to his quiet and slightly arrogant superstar persona, Jiang Lianzhou turns out to be a thoroughly devoted guy, a certified favorite of heaven. He's not just an insanely influential idol, but also a loyal partner who will make you green with envy, having kept his feelings locked away in his heart ever since high school.

Their dynamic isn't just your typical celebrity-meets-non-celebrity trope; it's a perfect match of contrasting personalities. Sheng Yi's cool demeanor acts as the perfect catalyst for Jiang Lianzhou, who is so used to being idolized. It forces him to strip away his superstar persona and show his truest self just to win her over again.

Massive Hype from the Supporting Cast

An essential ingredient in this novel's charm is the ultimate hype squad, epitomized by her best friend Yin Shuang. This character is basically a mirror image of the readers: enthusiastic, sharp-eyed, and always ready to aggressively ship our main couple.

Thanks to these friends and the fan community, the story maintains a lively, gentle atmosphere, steering clear of the toxic drama typical of the gossip-heavy entertainment industry. They see right through his act long before the female lead does, acting as the perfect matchmakers and giving the necessary nudges to make Sheng Yi finally question what's really going on.

Integrating online forums and fan chat logs gives the novel a very vibrant modern city vibe. It offers a realistic look at how a private relationship gets swept up in the public eye—even if, in this case, the public's 'delusions' happen to hit the nail right on the head.

Secrets from an Old chat history

The absolute biggest bombshell and turning point of the novel drops when an old chat history from the male lead's QQ account gets leaked. This is the moment Jiang Lianzhou's 'acting' facade is completely shattered, laying bare a deep, secret love that has endured for years.

The author plants this detail brilliantly, turning it into the ultimate, undeniable proof that shakes even a highly rational and stubborn person like Sheng Yi to her core. It's not just a plot device to escalate the drama; it's a beautiful bridge connecting their glamorous present to their simple, youthful past, proving his feelings were never just a passing phase.

The revelation of his secretly in love reality completely flips the script on the reality show and transforms both of their lives. From this point, the story transitions into deeper emotional territory, where genuine sincerity triumphs over any scripted showmance, and real sparks begin to fly in the female lead's heart, free from any director's cue.

What Makes This Book Shine

• An incredibly well-crafted, deeply devoted male lead who will absolutely steal the hearts of sweet-romance lovers.
• The humorous elements are naturally woven in through the leads' hilarious miscommunications and the fans' priceless reactions.
• Smooth writing and delicate character development, especially the gradual shift in Sheng Yi's realization.
• A fresh, gentle take on the entertainment industry, avoiding trashy drama, toxic schemes, or heavy scandals.
• The smooth transitions between the present day and nostalgic high school memories give the story great depth.

A Few Minor Caveats

• The 'superstar secretly in love with his old classmate' trope isn't groundbreaking, so seasoned readers of the romance genre might find it a bit familiar.
• Some of the variety show arcs drag out a little, causing the pacing to stall in certain places.
• The female lead can be quite dense when it comes to the male lead's feelings, which might frustrate readers who prefer quick-witted protagonists.

What the Community Says

• Jinjiang Literary City: 9.4/10 (with over 120,000 favorites, checked on 09/29/2026). This is an incredibly impressive score, proving how beloved the story is on its original platform thanks to its sweet plot and engaging style.
• Douban: 5.2/10 (checked on 09/29/2026). This score reflects a divide among more critical readers, who likely expected a more groundbreaking or high-stakes plot from this genre.

The Verdict

Clocking in at 108 chapters, this completed novel is the perfect light read to unwind with, leaving you with a warm fuzzy feeling and a renewed faith in lasting love. While it lacks high-stakes mind games or dramatic storms, the pure sincerity of Jiang Lianzhou and the quiet charm of Sheng Yi will definitely leave a sweet taste in your mouth.

In short: A super sweet, highly humorous tale of a youth-born secretly in love romance blossoming in the middle of the entertainment industry—absolutely perfect for healing your soul after a stressful day.
