A Dark Start and a Fair Warning

Before you dive into the treacherous world of this series, you should brace yourself for a setting that is rather harsh and gloomy. The story unfolds in a world completely swallowed by darkness, where humanity faces constant, lethal threats from monsters. I'd advise you to steel your nerves, as the early chapters lay bare a truly ruthless system of class discrimination.

In this realm, only those born into the nobles who possess mana have the power to stand and defend mankind. Our protagonist, Melida Angel, despite carrying the blood of a prestigious house, fails to manifest any energy during her time at the academy. This perceived failure quickly puts the young girl in the crosshairs of the ruling elite, leading to a cold-blooded assassination order.

A Complex Teacher-Student Dynamic

The man dispatched to seal her fate is Kufa Vampir, a master assassin operating under the guise of a devoted tutor. He is tasked with the heartless mission of killing Melida Angel immediately if she proves to have no talent for energy manipulation. However, the girl's sheer resilience and unyielding spirit begin to crack his icy resolve.

Their relationship evolves into something deeply complex, a tangled web of professional duty and subtle romantic feelings. It’s worth noting that Kufa Vampir's inner turmoil is what really adds depth to the story. He eventually chooses to stake his entire honor as a tutor assassin on his student, determined to prove her worth to the world.

World-Building and Power Systems

The author establishes a fairly straightforward power hierarchy based on noble lineage and the ability to wield basic mana. At the Mana user training academy, students undergo grueling training to prepare for the enemy. Generally, the higher the status of the nobles, the more formidable their power, which allows them to dominate the social ranks.

Despite her initial lack of energy, Melida Angel begins to show extraordinary abilities under her teacher's guidance. Meanwhile, her father is a prominent lord in the Angel family, but her late mother's past casts a shadow of doubt over her true identity. This suspicion regarding her legitimacy acts as a constant fuse for the various assassination plots targeting the young student.

What Works Well

• The character development is handled with great finesse, particularly Melida Angel's relentless drive to overcome adversity and prove her own worth.
• The battles involving mana are incredibly high-stakes, striking a perfect balance between pulse-pounding action and sharp tactical thinking.
• The conflicting bond between the teacher Kufa Vampir and his student is undeniably compelling, driving the emotional highs of their journey together.
• The inclusion of supporting characters like Elise Angel, Salacha Shicksal, and Keira adds much-needed splashes of light to an otherwise tense atmosphere.

Some Points to Consider

• The pacing in the opening chapters is quite slow, so you'll need a bit of patience to fully grasp the intricate world-building.
• The lingering questions surrounding Melida Angel's parentage and her mother's past haven't been fully resolved, which might leave you feeling a bit unsatisfied.
• The harem elements that crop up occasionally can sometimes dilute the dark, high-stakes tension of a world threatened by monsters.

Community Reception

Final Thoughts

This series offers a unique emotional experience by blending school life with thrilling action. Fans of adventure light novel series with a side of mind games will definitely find this to be high-quality entertainment. Just a heads-up: the story is still ongoing, so keep that in mind before you dive in.

The journey of self-discovery and validation for this master and apprentice duo promises many more grueling challenges ahead. If you're ready to get behind their tireless efforts, this is definitely an option worth considering.

In short: This is a challenging journey of mentorship and self-proof set in a harsh world of darkness.
