An Involuntary Survival Mission

The story kicks off when bookworm Zhong Yan suddenly gets transmigrated into a Xianxia novel he once read. Talk about bad luck—he wakes up as a weak, bottom-tier side character in a sect.

As if that weren't enough, right out of the gate he accidentally witnesses a murder committed by the story's villain, Gu XuanYan. Promptly slapped with a mission from the system, he now has to avoid getting silenced while somehow steering this absolute menace back to the righteous path.

A Delightfully Opposites-Attract Dynamic

The real charm of this novel lies in the interaction between the main pair. Zhong Yan is hilariously positive and easygoing, adopting a 'go with the flow' attitude to survive and protect the one he loves.

Directly opposing him is Gu XuanYan, a two-faced, deeply scheming murderer. The Danmei romance between this calculating mastermind and our nagging little cannon fodder develops rapidly and ends up being surprisingly sweet.

A Fast and Breezy Pace

Clocking in at a modest 29 chapters and 5 extra stories, the pacing is incredibly brisk. Readers won't be bogged down by overly complex cultivation schemes or endless battles.

The author focuses entirely on the survival journey and how our lead manages to catch the male lead's eye. Gu XuanYan's soft yandere vibe is quite entertaining, striking a nice balance between wanting to manipulate his partner and actually respecting him.

Notable Highlights

• Briskly paced, with zero unnecessary filler or drag.
• Witty banter, featuring a male lead who is genuinely independent and hilarious.
• The romance develops sweetly and unexpectedly, making it a perfect, stress-free read.
• A villain character who is both dangerous and genuinely respectful of his partner.

Drawbacks to Consider

• The Xianxia setting isn't deeply explored due to the very short length.
• The plot lacks high-stakes twists or complex schemes.
• Supporting characters outside of the main couple are barely developed.
