Gunsmoke and Forgotten Secrets

Some tales do not begin with a sweet dawn, but with an explosion tearing through the cold night of the borderlands. Three years ago in Gongzhou, a failed anti-narcotics operation buried both the reputation and the physical body of a young chief commander. People believed he remained beneath the desolate ruins, carrying grave mistakes with him that could never be forgiven.

Yet the wheels of fate always hold unexpected turns when that man miraculously awakens after three long years in a vegetative state. Emerging from the fragile line between life and death, he is forced to assume a false identity to quietly seek out the bloody truth of the past. His journey is far beyond a simple escape; it is an arduous quest for justice lying ahead.

Two Extremes Across the Boundary of Justice

The thick fog blanketing Jianning city begins to tear apart when two souls with completely different fates inadvertently collide. Former captain Jiang Ting, now under the alias Lu Chengjiang, embodies utter calmness and a razor-sharp intellect. He carries deep wounds within from the past, resembling a frigid sheet of ice harboring countless secrets yet unrevealed.

Contrasting sharply with that solitary silence is Deputy Captain Yan Xie, a passionate, brilliant, and free-spirited police officer. Born as the only son of the city's wealthiest family, he still chooses to plunge into danger rather than lead a life of silk and luxury. Yan Xie's somewhat shameless sincerity gradually transforms into a warm support, soothing Jiang Ting's frozen heart.

Bright Highlights of the Investigation

The work possesses remarkably brilliant merits that make it difficult for readers to look away from each page:

• The construction of an intricately complex and tightly linked chain of cases, step by step unfolding a colossal and realistic criminal network.
• The subtle and profound psychological shift between the two main characters, moving from initial suspicion to destined understanding and bonding.
• The descriptive prose of dramatic battle of wits paired with breathtaking action sequences, vividly portraying the fierce nature of police work.
• Character designs featuring exceptional inner depth, harmoniously blending thrilling detective investigations with deep romantic sentiments.

Pauses Worth Considering

Alongside its radiant highlights, the work still harbors a few minor aspects that might give certain readers pause:

• The pacing in the opening chapters feels somewhat slow as the author focuses on laying the groundwork for the massive setting and relationships.
• Certain intermediary cases resolved across multiple chapters easily create a sense of fatigue for those desiring a swift investigation process.
• The graphic details of violence and dark schemes of the criminal underworld may induce a rather heavy psychological toll on readers.

Companions and Marginal Pieces

Alongside the two protagonists, the supporting cast is meticulously crafted, contributing to a vibrant and emotional panoramic picture. Fellow officers standing shoulder to shoulder in Jianning like Han Xiaomei, Yang Mei, or Guo Li bring highly distinct colors. They not only assist in investigations but also diffuse the tense atmosphere with their sincerity and simplicity.

More specifically, the presence of Qin Chuan—a colleague and also a reliable superior—has created dramatic twists for the plot. Additionally, Yan Xie's family, with his wealthy father and benevolent mother, serves as an invaluable peaceful anchor. The warm and effortless acceptance from his mother has brought a gentle light, soothing Jiang Ting's life, which was once filled with storms.

Community Evaluation

Concluding a Journey of Piercing Clouds

Spanning a long journey of 161 chapters, the story concludes in a complete and fulfilling manner, leaving profound echoes in the hearts of readers. The gunsmoke has finally faded, the grievances of the past have been washed clean, and those in love have found their peaceful harbor. This is truly a must-read work for anyone captivated by thrilling cases and sincere affection.

The journey to seek justice amidst darkness has never been easy, but when the mist disperses, the brightest light will certainly belong to the courageous. Physical and emotional wounds will eventually heal; only faith in righteousness and true love endure through time.

In short, the work is a dramatic epic of the arduous fight against crime, where the love between Jiang Ting and Yan Xie blooms brilliantly amidst the dark mud.
