A Brutal and Dramatic Kick-off

One day, normal school life for the young Shion is suddenly turned upside down. Having long given up on honing his special ability, he unexpectedly awakens a unique power. This force, known as Sound Control with the title Dominant, makes its first-ever appearance in the world.

This sudden awakening brings no glory, only mortal peril from the authorities. Realizing how dangerous his new power is, the Self-Defense Force immediately hunts him down to eliminate him. Caught between life and death, the villainous organization Anonymous saves him, and he decides to join them just to stay alive.

A Truly Pragmatic anti-hero

Breaking away from the usual righteous hero tropes, Shion is a genuine anti-hero unchained by ideals. His sole motivation for joining Anonymous is self-preservation. His cold pragmatism and decisive nature make for an incredibly magnetic character.

His personality is depicted as ruthless but completely logical given the grim circumstances. You won't find a teenager hesitating before his enemies here; instead, you get someone ready to act decisively for survival. That fierce will to live is the engine driving his every move through this trap-filled journey.

Emotional Turmoil and Relationships

Alongside the brutal fight for survival, the story still weaves in some soft notes of romantic feelings. The arrival of the beautiful Tameiki-san, who offers comfort and a literal shoulder to lean on for Shion, brings a strange sense of warmth. These tender moments are the mental anchor that keeps him from being swallowed by the darkness.

Shion's friendships are also riddled with irony and complex psychological conflicts. His best friend is a high-ranking member of the very Self-Defense Force that's hunting him. Throw in a childhood friend who secretly loves that best friend, and you've got a tragic spiral of drama.

A Few Notable Downsides

Despite the compelling and novel plot, the work still has certain limitations. Readers should carefully consider the following drawbacks before diving into this brutal journey:

• The Light Novel version was sadly cancelled, so readers can only find the full story in the Web Novel format.
• Shion's extreme coldness and pragmatism might make it hard to empathize for readers who prefer traditional righteous heroes.
• The childhood friend characters aren't explored very deeply and can sometimes feel thin compared to the main events.

Community Buzz

Fairly well-received by the international community, the work has garnered plenty of positive feedback and diverse viewpoints. Here are the stats from reputable review sites:

• Novel Updates: 4.2 / 5.0 (199 votes, checked 02/10/2026). Most readers praise the realistic anti-hero portrayal and the fast-paced, high-stakes plot.
• WuxiaWorldEU: 3.25 / 5.0 (20 Reviews, checked 02/10/2026). Some mixed opinions suggest the psychological drama gets a bit overshadowed by the action and survival elements.
