A Collision of Eras

The story unfolds in a fascinating urban fantasy setting that seamlessly weaves modern reality with remnants of a distant past. In the world of Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire, the existence of the demon clan is no longer just a myth—it has become an integral part of society.

Descendants possessing special abilities live under the strict oversight of the National Bureau of Special Investigations and Control. However, chaos erupts when a rogue summoning ritual accidentally resurrects a demon god buried for three millennia.

The sudden return of this ancient emperor not only threatens the delicate balance of the world but also unearths horrific secrets. Fair warning to readers: the initial pacing can feel a bit challenging to navigate due to the dense lore and shifting timelines.

Fascinating Lead Characters

Xuan Ji comes across as a seemingly slacker rookie at the aftermath management department. Beneath his nonchalant demeanor, he carries the bloodline of the phoenix, possessing the ability to control fire and unfurl a brilliant pair of fire wings.

Though he maintains an easygoing facade to keep pain at bay, Xuan Ji is extraordinarily sharp. His amnesia regarding his past serves as the pivotal mystery driving the entire narrative forward.

Standing opposite him is Sheng Lingyuan, the legendary Emperor Qi Zheng resurrected after thousands of years of slumber. Enigmatic and cold, he possesses a calculating mind that commands caution from anyone in his presence.

The Depth of Broken Souls

Sheng Lingyuan is far more than a ruthless villain or a tyrannical monarch—he is a deeply fractured soul. While his icy calculations might make him seem distant at times, beneath the surface lies a heartbreaking agony centuries in the making.

The bond between him and Xuan Ji is crafted with incredible subtlety, deepening through shared hardship rather than sudden romance. As fragmented memories surface, a quiet mutual understanding forms, slowly repairing the lost connection from their shared past.

The romance unfolds quietly, yet leaves a profoundly emotional impact on the reader. I highly recommend that you pay close attention to how they interact, as even the smallest gesture carries heavy narrative weight.

A Rich Supporting Cast

Beyond the main couple, supporting figures like Zheng Xiao and Aluojin play essential roles. Zheng Xiao provides welcome comic relief as the colleague who frequently has to bribe Xuan Ji to get him to work.

Meanwhile, Aluojin embodies the tragedies of antiquity, transitioning from a close friend to a bitter enemy. His presence sheds light on dark corners of the ancient ruler's past, sparking high-stakes, dramatic conflicts.

The involvement of Bi Chunsheng alongside bureau cover-ups adds a compelling investigative thriller element. Intricate webs of conspiracy will keep you constantly piecing clues together to uncover the ultimate truth.
