A Millennial Bond Between Life and Death

The story unfolds in a modern metropolis where the boundary between reality and the underworld is blurred. A series of bizarre cases begin to crop up, revealing the imminent threat of deep-seated resentful Ghosts.

Right at this intersection, two souls with entirely different destinies cross paths. The intricate tangling of past and present weaves a mysterious and utterly captivating detective storyline.

The emergence of these supernatural entities doesn't just disrupt the lives of mortals; it also unravels an ancient mythological tapestry. Beneath it all lies a deeply moving connection between characters who carry a millennia-old loneliness on their shoulders.

Two Souls in Perfect Resonance

Zhao Yunlan, the head of the Special Investigation Department, initially comes across as arrogant, free-spirited, and mischievous. Yet, underneath that carefree facade lies a resilient soul, coupled with sharp-witted cunning and brilliant intellect.

As the heir to the Guardian Order, he bears the mantle of the Guardian, charged with bridging the gap between the two realms. Equipped with mystical artifacts, he stands firm against countless dangers.

In stark contrast, Shen Wei, a biology professor at Longcheng University, carries himself with a calm, aloof demeanor. Behind his scholarly guise, he hides his true identity as the powerful Black Robe Envoy and the mighty Ghost King.

Throughout a thousand years of solitude, he has silently watched over and protected the one he loves. The agonizing conflict between his longing to draw near and his self-imposed restraint breeds a silent heartache deep within him.

A Quirky Family at the Bureau

Beyond the main couple, the story breathes with life thanks to the colorful members of the Special Investigation Department. Every supporting character is crafted with a distinct personality and a rich backstory.

There is Guo Changcheng, a timid rookie who is perpetually terrified of the spiritual world. In contrast, the talking cat Da Qing, who serves as the Deputy Chief, has an adorable obsession with dried fish and a hilariously forgetful nature.

The roster expands with Zhu Hong, a woman of the Yashou tribe nursing an unrequited love. Along with the unique Lin Jing and the puppet-master Chu Shuzhi from the Dixingren race, they all forge a warm, tight-knit bond.

A Few Minor Shortcomings

• Dense lore and terminology: The abundance of races and titles such as the Black Robe Envoy, Ghost King, or Guardian can feel overwhelming for newcomers.

• Rushed pacing in certain segments: The rapid succession of supernatural incidents occasionally disrupts the quieter, reflective moments needed to explore the characters' psyches.
